Workhorse and InCharge Energy's new partnership gives electric truck fleets a single point of contact for every breakdown

Every fleet manager running electric trucks knows the scenario. A vehicle goes down mid-route. The fault could sit in the truck itself, the charging hardware, the site's electrical infrastructure, or a software link. Pinpointing the right fix has meant calling several vendors, each pointing at the other. One call now handles all of it.

Workhorse, the commercial electric truck maker, has struck a deal with InCharge Energy to cover field repairs, remote diagnostics, and a centralised Support Operations Centre under a single contract. InCharge routes each fault to the correct resolution tier; Workhorse keeps its name on the customer relationship throughout.

The timing reflects a deliberate choice. With over 1,100 electric trucks on US roads and more than 20 million commercial miles logged, Workhorse is building this support structure before fleet volumes peak. CEO Scott Griffith made the logic plain: large operators want certainty before committing to scale, not reassurances after the purchase order is signed. Full rollout across North American customers and dealers is targeted for Q4 2026.

External signals suggest the commercial logic is firming up across the sector. At ACT Expo, Amazon's head of fleet business development stated publicly that electric trucks have crossed the total cost of ownership threshold against diesel on both fuel and maintenance. For a buyer of that scale to say so in an open forum is less a declaration than a procurement signal to rivals.

Range and payload no longer separate the serious from the marginal players. What decides large fleet contracts now is what happens after the truck leaves the lot. The race to own that relationship has begun.
